GUIDE: Remote Mixing with VNC (Virtual Network Computing aka Remote Connection)

Using VNC (Virtual Network Computing) for remote mixing allows you to remotely control a computer connected to your digital mixer. If you use DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software on your host computer, using VNC will give you full access to all the software’s features and capabilities. This method offers an authentic mixing experience, but it does come with some challenges—like potential latency, high bandwidth usage, and the need for a stable connection to maintain control.

Splashtop VNC is more convenient than VPN because it eliminates one extra step to set up a VPN network to connect a host computer and remote computer.

Below is a set of instructions from the perspective of using a Behringer X32 mixer and Splashtop VNC software. If your hardware/software set up is different, please check your documentation to ensure as seamless a connection as possible.

Below is a short checklist to help you get your Behringer mixer ready for remote mixing

  1. Connect your Behringer X32 mixer to a router or host computer via ethernet cable
  2. Download the Behringer X32-Edit software to your host computer
  3. Follow the Behringer User Manual, section 5.16 (Remote Control), to configure your mixer and computer to connect to each other
  4. Sign up for Splashtop account
  5. Follow the Splashtop Getting Started Guide to connect your remote computer to your host computer
